Hi, I’m Helen. I am a Powerlifting and strength training enthusiast who went from a dissatisfied couch jockey to the British Masters Championships. This is my life’s 2nd Act and I wanted to start this blog to investigate the highs and lows of changing oneself, deciding to be different, and acting accordingly. Building badass mentality from the laxest of attitudes. Pros, cons and everything in between of a gym obsession whilst at the same time juggling all of the other parts of life, from running a consulting business, to parenting and daughtering.
What do I mean by Badass? Actively seeking out the hard thing, making your own choices, and not putting limits on your potential.
I want to investigate badassery in all its forms and will hopefully get a chance to interview other people, some of them much stronger than me, to find out what makes them tick. I also want to explore the connection between mind, body, self-image, motivation, competition and all the stuff that goes around in one’s head in the small hours of the night.
Including, even when we can never ever be strong enough, can we be enough?
Training in the gym has given me a self-confidence and feeling of capability that I never managed to create before. Let’s get this straight – I don’t suck, I am pretty strong, but I am not going to be winning anything other than plastic competitor medals anytime soon. But I don’t care. I keep trying.
For someone who never really stuck at anything, why has this one stayed the course? We are 6 years in now and they are going to have to rip that barbell out of my cold, dead, hand.
Lifting weights is just the thing that stuck and in this blog I am going to explore a bit more of reasons why this might be….
